The legacy of the “King of the Flat-Tops” from Gibson lives on in the SJ-200™ Original. From its inaugural appearance in 1937, the Gibson SJ-200 set an unmatched standard in looks and sound. It now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system, delivering the guitar’s bold voice and every nuance of your playing with exceptional realism when amplified.

Embraced by everyone from singing cowboy-movie and TV stars and country superstars to folk and rock legends, the SJ-200 has been heard on countless recordings and seen on stages worldwide for decades. It continues the legacy of the world’s most famous acoustic guitar and makes a sonic and visual statement like no other instrument ever made.

The SJ-200 Original features a flame maple back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top for a bold sound with excellent projection. Vintage-inspired appointments recall the first Golden Era of Gibson acoustic design, while the gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, gold hardware, and ornate detailing give the instrument the elegant presentation long associated with the SJ-200. The two-piece maple neck has a comfortable Rounded profile and is fitted with a rosewood fretboard equipped with 20 standard frets and adorned with mother-of-pearl graduated crown inlays—one of the visual hallmarks of this iconic acoustic guitar.

The headstock is ornamented with the Gibson logo and crown, both inlaid in mother of pearl. Gold Gotoh® Keystone tuners work in harmony with a bone nut to ensure smooth, solid tuning. The body features an engraved tortoiseshell-colored SJ-200 pickguard and the carved four-bar Moustache™ bridge, crafted from rosewood and fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins. Together, these period-inspired appointments reinforce the heritage of the King of the Flat-Tops while preserving the unmistakable SJ-200 identity.

Inside, the SJ-200 Original is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.

A Gibson hardshell case is also included, so the SJ-200 Original is ready to join you on stage, in the studio, or wherever the road takes you.
